Kevin Spacey rocked the closing keynote at Content Marketing World with plenty of inspiration sprinkled liberally with f-bombs.
There was some skepticism in what Kevin Spacey could teach us about Content Marketing. But he came out and addressed that right away with this truth.
You may call yourself marketers and I may be an actor but we are all trying to connect with an audience. @kevinspacey #cmworld

And he showed us that he knew our f’ing terms
“That’s right, I know your f’ing terms!” Thanks to @kevinspacey for a great #CMWorld keynote! https://t.co/a8kKDLwKfN

Here are some of the things I learned from Kevin Spacey.
1. It’s all about the story….still
Kevin (I’m just going to call him that) shared his 3 parts to a good story:
- Conflict
- Authenticity
- Audience
"Good content making is not a crap shoot – it is and always has always been about telling a story" via @KevinSpacey #CMWorld

And we are all story tellers.
The creatives have more control over the story than ever before @KevinSpacey #CMWorld

2. The platforms are changing
The audience doesn't care about the platform, they care about the content. ~ @KevinSpacey #CMWorld. http://t.co/igL2apx2Wn

Content: “Give people what they want, in the form they want it, at a reasonable price & they won’t want to steal it.” @kevinspacey #CMWorld

"We now live in the wonderful age where anyone with an Internet and an idea can develop an audience." #CMWorld @KevinSpacey

Building an audience doesn't require Hollywood's help. @KevinSpacey #CMWorld

3. There has never been a better time for content marketing
Ask yourself "What story do I want to tell?" Start simply, then find the most compelling way to tell that story.

It's the risk-takers that are rewarded @KevinSpacey #CMWorld

And I had a bonus moment in the whole experience – I got to ask Kevin Spacey a question! That’s right, I “talked” to Kevin Spacey 🙂
I’m pretty sure I asked him something along the lines of the downside to the fragmentation of audience such as lack of budget or the inability of some stories to be told.
He said that budget has never stopped the best stories. He gave a great example of a scene in On the Waterfront that didn’t have a big budget to shoot the New York skyline in the background so they modified the set and it ended up being one of the more intimate moments in the movie. Independent thinking is required when faced with a lack of budget.
Spacey talks abt value of independent thinking that arises when challenged with lack of budget (< $ = > creativity) @KevinSpacey #cmworld

Everyone agreed that it was an epic keynote speech and we all walked away inspired to create great content and share our own gifts with the world.
