3 Ways to Niche as a Social Media Manager to Get More Business

Do you need more clients as a social media manager or consultant? Sometimes when you are more specific about what you do, you can win more business. In this article, you’ll find 3 ways to niche as a social media manager to get more business.

You’ve maybe heard the expressions “niche to grow rich” and there is a good reason for that.  When you serve a specific audience or just do one type of thing really well, you can get more referrals.

But “narrowing” down your business can feel scary. When I first started out, I didn’t want to turn away any business.

But when I started to get more specific and really focus only on Facebook and Facebook advertising, I began to get more business as a social media manager.

Plus I enjoyed my business more because I didn’t have to know everything about all the social media platforms.  I could focus my expertise.

Here are 3 ways to narrow down your focus so you can grow your business.

#1 Niche by Industry

Focusing your business on an industry that you enjoy and know well can be an easy way to narrow your target audience.  If you know that industry, then you will know all the lingo, know what types of content can work for posts, and know the news of that industry.

Plus your website and everything you do will speak to just that industry.  You will draw your ideal client to you as the expert in that field.

#2 Niche by Skill

Another way to narrow your focus is to specialize in a skill.  Maybe you really like running social ads, or creating images, or helping people set up their social sites.

It’s ok to tell potential clients that you aren’t a one-stop-shop for all things digital marketing.

Here are some ideas for niching by skill:

  • Facebook Ad campaigns for a launch of a product
  • A package of 50 social media images to be used in Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook
  • Writing 2 blog posts per month
  • Social site set up and optimization (not ongoing management)
  • Social media workshops – training only

#3 Niche by Platform

If you find that you only enjoy working with Instagram or LinkedIn or Facebook, then you don’t have to cover all of the platforms.

Niching your business by platform is a great way to be known as the expert when someone asks for help with that platform.

Now that there are so many social sites, it’s hard to be an expert in all of them.  Especially with the ads, the groups, and the different techniques that each of the social sites have.

Narrowing down your focus to just one platform will also help you create good content for your blog and your own social media posts.

Niching can be scary.  But when you do, you will find that you ultimately get more business as a social media manager.
