If you are using Hootsuite or Tweetdeck, you will not see all of your tweets that have been retweeted in Twitter. Some of them are hidden in the web application of Twitter. That makes me a little cranky.
If someone is using the web application of Twitter and uses that Retweet button they have there, you will not see it in your mentions area of Hootsuite and Tweetdeck. So you should go into the web application every once in awhile to check if you have any retweets there. There is a Retweets link right below the Favorites link on your home page. Watch the video for more info on that.
I share in your crankiness. At my org, we keep a giant spreadsheet to track ‘reach’ or ‘potential impressions’ (our followers when we tweeted, # of retweets, # of followers of the retweeters) We use Tweetdeck because 1. it’s awesome and 2. it shows the follower count right there with each RT or mention. Made it easy to track. And then… we discovered the ‘hidden retweets’. Now it’s a daily chore to find and enter those values from the web app. Phooey.
I agree! I love Tweetdeck for the follower count in the app. But I love Hootsuite more because of the stats. But I really don’t like that you have to go into the web to see the RTs! Thanks Catherine!
As always, great info. I am bummed that this has to be so hidden. There is no easy way to reply to those who have retweeted you in this fashion either. I don’t get it. It is very anti-social?
Thanks GMM!
Hi Grandma Mary. Loved this Twitter info. I’m new to Twitter and only know how to retweet using the retweet button on the Twitter app. I’ve heard there’s a way to retweet that is preferable (that doesn’t use the retweet button) that starts with RT @… Can you tell me how to do that? You probably already have info on this but I haven’t found it. Could you direct me to it? Thanks!

Thanks Kathy! Yes, the Retweet button is sort of handy but to be seen more easily by someone, you will have to cut and paste the Tweet and manually enter a RT in front of it. Not the easiest way to do it but that’s how we used to have to do it back in the day!
A better option is using a different tool to look at Twitter. I like Hootsuite and you can find my tutorial on that here: http://www.grandmamaryshow.com/twitter/hootsuite-tutorial

i have a new twitter im not sure if it is old or new 🙁 but i cant see who retweeted my posts 🙁
only option i hae at “home” is “timeline, my twitter name, activity, searches, lists” my “retweets” button is now gone, how can i find out???
thankyou
Yep it’s changed again! All the RTs now appear in the @yourname tab on the Home Page of Twitter. Darn changes make it hard to keep up!
Under your twitter name, it says @mentions and more. The “and more” includes Retweets. You’ll see it there if someone retweeted you.
Thanks for the answer! I was asleep at the wheel on my comments. Yes, they’ve now changed this so you don’t have a separate tab for the retweets!
I just got twitter and want to find out how to see whether people have retweeted my tweets :S
I have found it’s definitely hit or miss, some retweets show, some don’t. But I’ve found the web.tweetdeck.com version reliably shows them. The Chrome app does not.
Thanks for sharing your experience David! Frustrating that they aren’t always showing up!
