Why did you start your business? What do you believe in? What do you stand for?
These were some of the questions I was recently wrestling with at a recent meeting of the National Speakers Association Colorado Chapter. The topic was how to stand out from the crowd and it was facilitated by Ava Diamond and Paul Vorreiter. It was a great meeting and one of the things we worked on was our Manifesto.
What I liked about the presentation was that we were encouraged to write strong statements and get a little pissed off. I liked it because that’s how I felt when I started my business. I was a little pissed off at what types of tutorials and teaching I was seeing out there.
It was boring. People tried to confuse you and make you feel small for not understanding all their acronyms and jargon. And they were making it too complicated.
And that’s why Grandma Mary – Social Media Edutainer was born. And while she is in retirement, she does still pop in to speak her mind.
I think getting a little angry and remembering that place I was in really helped me to get in touch with why I do what I do. And how I want to serve and change the world.
Here is my Business Manifesto in video and visual form.
How about you? Why did you start your business? I would encourage you to write a manifesto as well. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
